This study conducted a focus group interview (FGI) survey on 20 retired active seniors (61-74 years) to analyze their interests in life and preferences for rural healing activities. The analysis revealed that the life interests of the retired active seniors could be categorized into six themes: healthy living, self-oriented life, meaningful life, self-realization, social relationships, and a joyful and happy life. Furthermore, their preferences for rural healing activities were classified into three main categories. The first category included activities that provided an experience of rural life (rest in nature, rural experiences, understanding rural culture, creating memories, volunteer work, and regular activities). The second category encompassed activities that enhanced bonding through communication and empathy, including interactions with locals and family members. Lastly, the third category comprised activities that fostered a sense of achievement. In conclusion, retired active seniors, in their “second life” after retirement, showed significant interest in various activities with concrete goals for their lives. They also displayed clear preferences for rural healing activities. Therefore, it is essential to develop programs that cater to their characteristics and needs. These programs should focus not only on providing physical and mental relaxation but also on promoting social connections and offering opportunities for personal growth and achievement. This study provides a theoretical foundation for the development of programs aimed at improving the health and quality of life for the increasing population of retired active seniors through an analysis of their life interests and preferences for rural healing activities.
