Electromagnetically driven systems are used in a limited number of tracked military vehicles, and the integration of the controller and servomotor can extend this advantage. However, a system combining these two components is required to demonstrate thermal safety. In this study, the thermal safety of a controller-integrated servomotor was evaluated. The U.S. military standard code MIL-STD-810G was applied to evaluate the safety of the servomotor in high-temperature environments. A finite element model was built by modifying and idealizing the shape of the original model. Corresponding finite element approaches, such as transient thermal and static structural analyses, were conducted using a commercial analysis software package. The design of the integrated servomotor was conducted to guarantee safety in the operational environment, as regulated by U.S. military standards. The thermal strain and stress were observed to be low in a limited area located in the motor and screws of the controller board. Thus, this integrated controller and servomotor were thermally stable, with the highest temperature being within 70% of the allowable temperature of the system.
