African migrants face numerous challenges in South Korea, mirroring difficulties encountered in other countries. Over the past three decades, the number of African migrants and refugees has surged globally. This study aims to analyze the current situation of African refugee applicants in South Korea and the associated issues. The study begins with an introduction that highlights the global increase in African migrants and the importance of understanding their challenges in South Korea. It then examines the current status of African refugees in South Korea, providing demographic information and settlement patterns of African refugees. The asylum application process in South Korea is scrutinized, including statistics on African asylum seekers and relevant policies. The analysis section delves into issues such as differing perceptions of refugees, the unintended production of political refugee applicants, limitations of the refugee screening process, challenges faced by refugee families, and the shortcomings of South Korea’s immigration policies. The study concludes with policy recommendations, summarizing key findings and suggesting improvements for better refugee integration and protection. This comprehensive analysis aims to inform stakeholders and encourage actions to address the challenges faced by African refugees in South Korea.
