만성췌장염의 합병증 중 하나인 외분비 기능부전은 환자의 삶의 질을 저하시키는 주요한 요인 중 하나이며, 이에 대한 적극적인 진단 및 치료가 필요하다. 여러 검사법들이 사용되고 있으나 국내에서의 정확도가 낮고 모니터링에 용이하지 않아 활용도가 낮으며, 많은 비용이 소요된다는 단점이 존재한다. 외국에서는 유용성이 검증된 PEI-Q는 이러한 단점들을 보완할 수 있을 것으로 기대되는 검사법 중 하나로, 국내에서의 유용성 검증이 필요하나 임상에서 적극적으로 활용한다면 비교적 적은 비용으로도 환자의 높은 순응도를 유도할 수 있을 것으로 예상된다. 추후 이에 대한 다 기관 연구와 협의가 필요하다.
