A Study of Dance Performance Producers’ Experiences with Online Streaming Eun-Hye Park(Korea National University of Arts) This study aims to investigate the experiences of dance producers, including choreographers, dancers, videographers, curators, and publicists, with online streaming. In particular, it explores how the forced online performance environment has affected their perceptions of the nature of dance performance, as well as their working environments and practices. To do this, the research involved examples with dance producers from three leading Korean contemporary dance companies (Korea National Contemporary Dance Company, Ahn Eunmi Company, and Ambiguous Dance Company) about their experiences with online streaming in 2020, the worst period of the shutdown from COVID-19. It found that COVID-19 did not change dance producers' perceptions of the nature of dance performance. This result has more to do with the fact that the systems, networks and practices around the production and consumption of dance performance have remained the same, rather than the nature of dance performance itself. This paper is significant in that it is an examination of the social construction of what is considered to be an intrinsic attribute of dance performance from the perspective of the sociology of the arts.
