The purpose of this paper is to examine the aspects of transformation of Izumo(出雲) faith, focusing on the literary arts of ancient and medieval Japan. The prototype of Izumo faith in ancient literature can be seen in the deity Okuninushi, who appears in the Kojiki and Nihonsyoki, and Okuninushi's greatest role is nation-building. In the Fudoki, Izumo-god is listed as Okami, and he was a god of nation-building as an agricultural deity. In addition, the story of Homuchiwake in the Kojiki, Izumo-god is described as a god of curses. Furthermore, Izumo-taisha is listed as a Meishin-taisha in the Engishiki Jinmei-cho. In the Senge Bunshu, the deity is praised as the most spiritual in the country, and the main shrine is described as the most splendid in the entire nation. In the Ogisho, it is written that the gods of various countries leave their places of worship and gather in Izumo.Izumo was recognized as a place where the gods gathered in the Kagakushu. In medieval literature and art, Izumo worship is described in Tsurezuregusa as the Izumo Shrine in Tanba, and Izumo is depicted as the object of deep piety. In the Oyashiro, the presence of a religious community centered around Izumo, since where the gods from across the country gather in Izumo in October. Izumo-taisha is also mentioned as the place where as many as thirty-eight shrines were recommended. Furthermore, in the Chirizuka Monogatari, it can be seen that Okuninushi assumed a new divine identity as Daikokuten, influenced by the phonetic similarity of Daikoku.
