Background and objective : SMG-SNU Boramae Medical Center implements a team-based clinical pharmacy service for Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). This study aimed to examine the perception and expectations of healthcare providers on team-based clinical pharmacy services. Methods : A survey was constructed to include questions on healthcare provider’s awareness, satisfaction, needs, and obstacles for the established team-based clinical pharmacy services. Healthcare providers were also asked about types of new pharmacy services in the survey. A two-round of Delphi survey method was used. Results : A total of 22 healthcare providers responded to the questionnaire. All items related to the awareness were positively evaluated with an average score of 3.50 points (SD=0.67) on a 4-point Likert scale. For satisfaction, higher average scores were reported for ‘Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM)’, ‘Nutrition support team (NST)’, and ‘Providing drug information’, with an average score of 3.67 points (SD=0.60). Other items on the satisfaction showed a lower average score of 3.03 points (SD=0.70). Items related to the needs for services were evaluated positively with an average score of 3.69 points (SD=0.50). The most frequently reported obstacle was the lack of continuous support of clinical pharmacy services. The need for improving the SBAR tool, a structured communication tool, was suggested. Conclusion : Positive results were confirmed by health care providers for team-based clinical pharmacy services at SICU. Their satisfaction levels were higher in TDM, NST, and provision of drug information. Our findings could serve as a point of reference for addressing the needs for considering improved information technology supported by electronic medical records and an enhanced clinical decision support system in the future.
