Career preparation behavior is a challenge among nursing students. Active career preparation during college has shown to increase job satisfaction and reduce job turnover. This study aimed to develop strategies to improve career preparation behaviors of nursing students by examining how it is affected by nursing image, major satisfaction, and professionalism. This study was conducted from April 16 to May 13, 2020. Participants were 220 students in the nursing department from freshmen to senior year, living in Gyeonggi-do, Chungcheong-do, and Gangwon-do. The online survey questionnaires were sent and received through email. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 23.0 program. The mean scores of the participants were 3.90 points for nursing image; 4.07 points, major satisfaction; 3.68 points, nursing professionalism, and 3.59 points, career preparation behavior. Results of the multiple linear regression analysis revealed that major satisfaction had the greatest impact on career preparation behavior, followed by nursing professionalism and reasons for application. Therefore, nursing education institutions need to develop continuous learning coaching or counseling program to increase satisfaction of their nursing students. Additionally, it is necessary to make efforts to establish nursing professional intuitions for nursing students through systematic curriculum operation.
