This paper empirically analyses the relative efficiency in terms of location, management, and facility types by utilizing data on public sports facilities. The result from our research supports that the public sports facility’s location should be carefully selected in order to guarantee the efficiency in operation of the public sports facilities in the future. In addition, the efficiency should be ensured by operating the facilities in the consigned and hybrid type. In this regard, we analyzed the relative efficiency of the DEA for 74 public sports facilities in Korea in 2012-2013. The total number of users and the total revenue are considered the output variables. As for the input variables, we used the total cost and the total floor area. While it is not statistically significant in our research, the efficiency turns out to increase gradually. In detail, the efficiency in urban area was higher than non-urban areas, and the efficiency of KSPO(Korea Sports Promotion Foundation) or consigned management was higher than direct management. Also, the efficiency of the hybrid type is higher than that of the basic type. The slack analysis reveals that (1) the average number of users will increase by 13.9%, (2) the total revenue will increase by 0.6%, and (3) the total cost and the total floor area will decrease by 0.6% and 6.8%, respectively. Therefore, in order to guarantee the efficiency in operation of the public sports facilities in the future, the location should be selected so that more people can come and use it. Furthermore, the efficiency should be ensured by developing and operating the facilities in the consigned and hybrid type.
