In the mid-to-late twentieth century, postmodern architecture emerged but soon declined.This article aims to start from the core issues of desire and desire expression, use the theory of desire to interpret postmodern architectural space, and analyze the reasons for its decline.This study is based on theory, integrating theory with practice, and selects 3 American buildings and 2 Japanese buildings as cases.First, the definition of desire and the expression of desire are summarized through literature, then architecture is connected with literature and psychology, and the characteristics of postmodern architecture are summarized. Finally, the performance of desire theory in architectural space is analyzed through cases.The analysis results show that postmodern architecture still only works on the superficial level such as design form and theme, and fails to satisfy people"s deep-seated desires, and human desires will change with the development of society.Therefore, it is concluded that the fundamental reason for the decline of postmodern architecture is determined by human desires.
