Recently, domestic agriculture in Korea has been facing difficulties in agricultural production due to rapid climate change and aging, and it is expected to cause disruptions in the stable food supply for the people in the future. The introduction of smart farms that apply 4th industrial technology to the production methods of our agriculture, which is struggling due to labor shortages due to the decrease and aging of the rural population, changes in cropping systems due to climate change, and increased pests and diseases, etc. It will improve the efficiency of the overall agricultural industry by increasing the productivity and improving the quality of agricultural products.Smart farms can be applied regardless of space, such as cities, rural areas, and suburban areas.
Building-type farms with high efficiency per unit area, which cultivate crops by artificially controlling the environment inside a closed space, can secure sufficient production even in limited areas in the city, and help to improve the surrounding environment.
In addition, smart farms with the function of a complex cultural space provide emotional stability and new experiences through various programs, and have the function of creating jobs derived from it.
In the case of rural smart farms, it helps to revitalize the local economy by attracting tourists, and the various technologies applied to smart farms can minimize labor input, which can be a great help to the operation of elderly farmers.This study proposes a rhizome-shaped smart farm as a new physical spatial structure to complement the vulnerabilities of the existing smart farm spatial structure and improve the current situation where the spatial planning of smart farms that are suitable for the local situation or environment is not specialized, and the utilization of spaces for experience and experience other than simple cultivation is insufficient.
