This study is a study on user participation using transmedia contents in a museum based on the concept of a participatory museum. Recently, museums are placing importance on not only viewing but also community-based visitor participation, and for this purpose, they intend to utilize various media platforms. The use of transmedia, which can increase understanding and participation in content through connections between media platforms, can be found in several recent museum cases. Paying attention to these changes, this study aimed to explore the current media environment and characteristics of transmedia, and pay attention to the evolution of museums toward transmedia. As a research method, the characteristics of transmedia and museums are investigated through literature research to identify current exhibition cases using transmedia, and elements made up of stages by analyzing them based on Simon''s five stages of participatory experience sorted them out. In addition, by carrying out a project for the ASEAN Cultural Center that applied elements of each stage, it was carried out to plan exhibition-linked educational contents for young people based on transmedia that can be built at local cultural institutions. The content was planned by 1) actual exhibition experience, 2) media experience such as AR and VR, 3) joint experience through games by team, 4) social media activities in connection with games, 5) connecting with local schools and other institutions, and FGI(Focus Group Interview) was conducted to understand the user experience results. As a result, interest in content increased as the level of participation increased, and it was found that the content of participatory museums using transmedia was expanding user participation. Through this study, based on the concept of a participatory museum, transmedia contents that can be implemented in actual local cultural institutions were planned. Ultimately, it is hoped that this study will serve as a reference for implementing various content designs based on museums.
