Korean drag artists are gradually expanding their range of activities by drawing sympathy from the times with keywords such as “identity,” “self-image,” and “free self-expression.” In this social atmosphere, the spread of new media platforms such as YouTube and TikTok has created an environment where anyone can freely produce and consume content, and has also changed the drag culture. The YouTube channel Neon Milk features Bambi, Nana Younglong Kim, Bithamickju, and Serena, who cover various topics such as exercise, home shopping, cooking, and Q&A with Drag. The channel’s <3 minute drag makeup> content showcases the makeup of various drag artists active in Korea. Therefore, this study focuses on makeup video content to analyze the cosmetic characteristics of domestic drag artists. The formative elements of makeup were divided into shape, texture, and color with reference to previous studies. The form, texture, and color of makeup for each drag artist were analyzed, and the formative characteristics and meaning of drag makeup were discussed. As a result, it was found that the morphological characteristics use excessive contouring to express the three-dimensional effect of the face. It not only changes the overall facial contour, but also changes the shape of the nose, eyes, and cheekbones. The texture characteristics of the skin were mainly solid and matte by using a foundation thick enough to reveal its natural skin color at all, blending the silky texture and powder that kept the foundation glossy. As for the characteristics of makeup color, when analyzed by color combination images, ‘fancy’ color images were common. It is interpreted as a dynamic and hard image representation rather than a soft image, mainly using colors of mature, luxurious, sophisticated, attractive, and cold images. Through this, the makeup formative characteristics of Korean drag artists are the realization of drag images through exaggeration of form through the use of bold lines and colorful and dynamic colors and textures.
