The purpose of this study is to present primary data on the body dimensions of men’s clothing companies by analyzing the lower body shape characteristics and types of tall adult males aged 20 to 69. As a research method, body dimensions and calculation items were statistically analyzed for 495 adult men with a height of 178cm or higher, which belong to the top 25% of the 3D measurement data of the 8th Korea Size Survey. Factor analysis was performed to extract the body type of the lower body, cluster analysis was performed to classify the lower body type, and cross analysis was performed to compare the frequency of each type by age. The results show that six factors were extracted through factor analysis, and the total explanatory variance of all factors was 83.941%. As a result of cluster analysis using six factors as independent variables, three types of clusters were derived. Type 1 was a ‘skinny type with long legs (34.1%), slender and long legs and a relatively short hip length compared to other types. Type 2 was a ‘cylindrical body shape with low buttock’ (38.8%). The horizontal size of the calf from the hip was medium, the horizontal size of the hip to the waist was similar to that of Type 3, and the lower body height ratio was the lowest among the groups. Lastly, type 3 was ‘moderate obesity, with short legs and the thickest body type(21.7%), with the largest horizontal and small vertical sizes. According to the distribution results by body type and age, men in their 20s belong to Type 1 and Type 2. Men in their 30s mainly belong to type 3, and men in their 40s and 60s were the most distributed in Type 2. The results of this study are expected to be used as a foundation for setting the size section necessary for garment manufacturing and related clothing patterns that reflect the lower body characteristics of tall men.
