Non-destructive hardness testing methods are being developed to identify damage to aged steel structures. In this study, the relationship between the hardness and plastic strain of periodically deformed members was established through monotonic loading experiments on steel panels to detect damage to steel materials. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that there was more than twice the difference between the rebound hardness value in the elastic region and the rebound hardness value in the plastic region. Through this, we established the relationship between the hardness of steel and plastic strain, and used this to test rebound hardness measurement as a non-destructive damage detection method for maintenance of steel structures.
