Due to the rapid aging of the Korean population, it has become important to create environments that compensate for the visual limitations of the elderly and support their independence in daily life. As color plays a key role in creating a cognitively friendly environment for the elderly, this study analyzed the current state of color in senior welfare centers and explored future directions. In this study, we analyzed the current state of color along with a theoretical review of cognitively friendly factors for the elderly. Two senior welfare centers in Ansan were selected as research subjects, and field research and photography were conducted. For color analysis, Munsell Conversion CMC23 program was used to extract Hue, Value, and Chroma, and each image was analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the two senior welfare centers showed significant differences in the degree of application of cognitive-friendly elements. Many of the color plans did not consider the visual characteristics of the elderly, such as applying prominent visual stimuli to unnecessary areas or applying colors with small differences in Value. Through the analysis of the color status of the Ansan senior welfare center, we explored the direction of color planning to support the cognitive function of the elderly. we hope that the cognitive enhancement method for the elderly established in this study can be used as a basis for creating a cognitive-friendly environment when deciding on the color and color scheme of senior facilities in Ansan City in the future.
