This study is designed to identify and systematically analyze the various manifestations and design elements of green architecture to lay the groundwork for eco-friendly design practices in China. To achieve this, the research focused on four eco-friendly buildings recently constructed in China, all designed by the renowned Italian architect Stefano Boeri. These buildings were analyzed to examine the characteristics and design elements of green architecture, leading to several significant findings. First, a range of greening types, including vertical greening, horizontal greening, roof greening, and interior greening, were incorporated in complex combinations, creating what can be described as urban forests. Second, the integration of design elements such as colors, plants, and sculptural features offers multiple functions and forms of green architecture. These elements do more than just fulfill visual and aesthetic purposes; they also play essential economic and functional roles. This study, based on case analyses of a specific architect’s buildings, may face limitations in generalizing results due to the restricted data on different regions or architectural types. However, green architecture remains a critical strategy for sustainable urban development and is a vigorously discussed issue in China, hence its significance. By expanding the scope of research, it is hoped that green architecture can be more widely adopted as a foundational strategy for sustainable urban development, potentially serving as a valuable reference for future architectural projects and research in China.
