This paper analyzed representative gender hate speech in China and South Korea, highlighting their characteristics and examining gender conflicts within both societies. Through the analysis of terms such as ‘-媛’, ‘女拳’, ‘小仙女’ used to disparage women and terms like ‘國男’, ‘謠郎’, ‘男寶’ used to disparage men, it was observed that gender hate speech in China was excessively expanded in usage, along with positive terms being transformed into negative meanings. Similarly, through the analysis of terms like ‘한녀’, ‘김치녀’, ‘삼일한’ degrading women and ‘한남’, ‘씹치남’, ‘숨쉴한’ degrading men, it was found that there is a tendency in Korea to excessively use collective expressions and heavily rely on mirroring strategies.
This study suggests that gender conflicts in Korean society may appear more severe compared to China. While China primarily creates gender hate speech targeting specific men or women due to particular incidents or conflicts, Korea tends to use more collective expressions and extensively employs mirroring strategies to create new expressions due to simple gender-based animosity. Furthermore, it was noted that certain gender conflicts stem from cognitive differences between genders, where women perceive men as having excessive power and privileges, while men perceive women as pursuing privileges rather than genuine equality. Additionally, in both China and Korea, hatred toward men has expanded to hatred toward society, resulting in the creation of expressions like ‘愛丁堡’ and ‘좆국’. Ultimately, gender conflicts can be viewed as systematic issues within patriarchal societies.
