A survey and analysis were conducted on 10 public libraries in Tokyo Metropolis that have been opened since 2000 in order to understand the types and characteristics of bookshelves and reading areas arranged in Japanese public libraries. To accomplish this, the primary objective is establish a theoretical framwork for research and analysis methods using data pertaining to book organization within the library's general data area. Additionally, it aims to determine the order and type of book placement. The results of the survey analysis are as follows. First, a common feature of book arrangement in the general data area is to organize books into categories based on the decimal classification system and arrange them in corresponding sections as comprehensively as possible. Second, in the section of Social Science, Technology, and Arts, which contain a lot of data that are familiar to daily life, the method of book arrangement is centered on Technology, and even if the sectional order of decimal classification method is broken, it is sometimes placed in relation to newspapers, magazines, and children's data areas. Third, the main subject of the book arrangement study in Technology is on Home Economics and Life Science, and the arrangement relationship with children's data areas and newspapers and magazines is being sought. Fourth, there are six types of the bookself placement according to the book arrangement, and In most cases, it was analyzed that there was a tendency to place books with an emphasis on a specific category or section.
