This study reviewed the trend of smart city services universally applied in domestic cities, comparing and analyzing the cases of newly planned cities targeting 72 public development projects such as new cities and innovative cities, and the cases of established cities targeting 105 public development projects promoted by local governments.
In newly planned cities an average of 8.18 types of services (589 applications of 64 types of services) are applied, while in established cities an average of 2.85 types of services (299 applications of 88 types of services) are applied, with 88.3% and 75.9% concentrated in transportation, crime prevention-disaster prevention, and environmental services, respectively.
However, although the number of applications in established cities is smaller than in newly planned cities, it shows that they are applied diversely to culture-tourism, logistics, and employment services.
According to the analysis, there were 23 types of services common to both newly planned cities and established cities, and 18 types of services not classified in the service classification system in newly planned cities and 50 types in established cities. This result suggests that it is necessary to redefine smart city services-related terms and reorganize the classification system considering the purpose of expanding the application of smart city services and promoting private industry.
Ultimately, the results of the study reveal that in both newly planned cities and established cities, various smart city services that residents can experience according to the smart city plan need to be continuously expanded and reflected by local governments actively.
