In this study, a comparative analysis of energy consumption was performed for single-gear and two-speed transmission electric vehicles (EVs). By comparing the energy consumption of the two EVs, the improvement in efficiency when a two-speed transmission was used for the EV was determined. The urban and highway driving patterns were also considered. In the case of urban driving, the efficiency of the two-speed transmission EV improved by 2.82% compared to that of the single-gear EV. In the case of highway driving, the efficiency of the two-speed transmission EV improved by 0.51% compared to that of the single-gear EV. The improvement in efficiency for highway driving was less significant than that for city driving while using a two-speed transmission. This was because the change in the operating area of the motor during highway driving was smaller than that during city driving.
