Purpose: This study aims to compare and comprehensively analyze research trends in school physical education policy in Korea and China.
Method: The study involved examining research abstracts on school physical education policies published in Korea and China from 2000 to 2023. The data were meticulously gathered from the Korea Citation Index (N=443) and the Chinese Social Science Citation Index (N=418). The information underwent a sophisticated text mining process, specifically using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) algorithm.
Results: The results of the keyword network analysis revealed that school physical education (PE) policy was a prominent research focus in Korea, while school health policy took precedence in China. Other notable research topics in Korean studies included PE curriculum, health promotion, school sports facilities, sports clubs, and the protection of student-athletes. Similarly, important research themes in China include PE curriculum, health promotion, sports facilities, school sports reform, and investigations into foreign school policies.
Conclusion: This study identifies commonalities in school PE policies between Korean and Chinese research, particularly in PE curriculum, health promotion, and school sports facilities. Furthermore, there are distinctions observed in research focus, with Korean studies emphasizing sports clubs and the protection of student-athletes. Chinese research has focused on school sports reform and the examination of foreign school PE policies.
