This study aims to respond to the societal problems arising from various reasons that have led to the abandonment of buildings. Long-abandoned structures, driven by factors such as pandemics, declining birth rates, and economic downturns, have been causing adverse societal impacts, including safety concerns, youth disengagement, and a deterioration of urban aesthetics.
In this context, the research proposes not a simple demolition but rather the transformation of long-neglected buildings into multifunctional cultural facilities as a solution to these issues. Through an examination of cases where long-abandoned buildings have been repurposed into cultural facilities, this study investigates the benefits accrued in social, environmental, and urban aspects through such solutions.
The primary goal of this study is to contribute to addressing the societal problems caused by long-abandoned architecture and to propose a meaningful direction for regenerating structures that have been neglected for an extended period, ultimately benefiting society.
