Recently, knitwear is steeply increasing in demand and shows a trend of rising in quality both in domestic and international fashion market. Highly acknowledged in their fashion quality of giving varieties to the design with the different types of yarns, various knitting techniques, dying methods, post-processes, knit wear products in the world-class designers' collections is getting larger in proportion every year. In this study, the fashion characteristics of knitwear design, focusing on the materials and knitting techniques, represented in the four major women's wear collections of London, New York, Paris, and Milan are closely examined. The trends shown in the foreign knitwear collections can be classified in four different styles: Hairy knitwear style, Machine knitwear style, Hand craft knitwear style, and Mixed knitwear style. Utilizing various kind of yarns and knitting techniques, creative Knitwear design can be infinitely expanded. This study, therefore, can inspire the designers interested in the free expressive methods and new material development, through the analysis and evaluation of knitwear products represented in the collections of the world-class designers.
