This study is an action research on a digital convergence formative design class for the first year students majoring in spatial design, with the aim of developing a class model to foster creative talent that can respond organically to a rapidly changing future. The class is designed on the premise of presenting creative ideas through analytical observation using a digital microscope and the use of various digital tools to overcome the current limitations of existing formative design classes which rely upon a strong manual and craft nature. The digital convergence class consists of five stages focusing on the core skills required for formative design activities. After the course, students were surveyed and the results showed that the digitally-integrated teaching method helped them to improve their skills for their future majors. The students found the most novel and interesting aspect of the course to be the use of digital microscopes for spatial design, but they also mentioned that the time allotted for the final project was insufficient to produce a complete outcome.
