This study aims to compare college students’ perception of online versus offline classes using the online platform Padlet as a tool in liberal arts class during the COVID-19 lockdown. Thirty six students in real time online class and thirty seven students in offline class participated in the study. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used. The statistical results and analysis for the open-ended questions showed that first, the participants had higher participation for real time online classes than for offline classes(p < .05). Second, there was no statistical significance with regard to gender, but there was statistical significance depending on the grade(p < .05). Juniors’ participation was significantly lower than that of Freshmen and Sophomore in real time online classes. On the other hand, Freshmen’ participation was significantly higher than that of Sophomore and Senior students in offline classes. Third, qualitative analysis showed participants in both real time online and offline classes felt positive about using Padlet as an educational tool. The study found that the Padlet tool was effective in engaging students in both real time online and offline liberal arts classes. Finally, on the basis of the pedagogical implication and suggestions, the substantiality of blended learning and the essential of the education were discussed.
