In this paper, I looked at the current situation of Sino-Korean words and Chinese character education in Korean language education. In addition, when teaching Sino-Korean words to Korean language learners, how to use the knowledge of Chinese characters was discussed with examples. In this article, the following main points were discussed. First, the current status of Chinese character education in Korean language education was examined; how the proportion of Chinese characters has changed in Korean society, how Chinese character education is progressing in Korean language educational institutions in Korea, and how Chinese characters and knowledge related to Chinese character education are being handled in the Korean language teacher qualification system. Second, the assertion that knowledge of Chinese characters is necessary in the process of learning Korean vocabulary and some of its grounds were confirmed, and the contents of studies that empirically showed that knowledge of Chinese characters are helpful in expanding the vocabulary of Chinese characters were reviewed. Third, how Chinese character elements can be used productively in the expansion of Korean vocabulary, and what are the limitations and points to pay attention to are discussed with examples. Finally, how to provide knowledge of Chinese characters to Korean language learners in the Chinese character culture area was briefly examined.
