The purpose of this study is to verify the mediating effect of peer relationships on communication with mother and smartphone overdependence. Cronbach’s α, frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis were performed using the JAMOVI program for the data collected by the online questionnaire, and bootstrapping verification was performed using the JAMOVI medmod module ‘Mediation’. As a result of the study, first, mother’s communication had a positive (+) effect on peer relationships. Second, mother’s communication was found to have a negative (-) effect on smartphone overdependence. Third, peer relationships had a significant effect on the relationship between mother’s communication and smartphone overdependence and playing a partial mediating role. Based on these results, it was found that mother’s communication and peer relationships are important factors in adolescents’ smartphone overdependence. Above results, suggestions were made for communication with mothers, enhancement of peer relationships and future studies.
