This study examined the water quantity and quality of two covered channels that were previously rivers but are now used for sewage. The S channel exhibited daily variations in flow rate due to the inflow of sewage, with a cycle ranging from 43,000 m3/day to 62,000 m3/day. Similarly, the D channel had daily changes in flow rate due to sewage inflow, with a daily cycle ranging from 25,000 m3/day to 29,000 m3/day. The daily average flow rate in sunny days was 53,000 m3/day for the S channel and 28,000 m3/day for the D channel. An estimated 22% of water in the S channel and 57% of water in the D channel were sewage. The study also predicted the amount of usable water that could be used for river maintenance if all sewage were separately discharged. It was estimated that the S channel could provide about 41,000 m3/day of usable water, while the D channel could only provide about 12,000 m3/day. The minimum amount of water required for river maintenance to restore the open river and maintain its function as a river was estimated, revealing that the S channel has more available water than required, while the D channel has a smaller amount of available water than required. To address this, reducing the stream width or securing additional water supply sources for river maintenance may be necessary.
