This study examines Chinese animation works in chronological order, including the 17 years since the founding of New China, the early period of reform and opening up, and the period since the 2000. It analyzes Chinese animation of the characteristics, development process and the formation of the anti-hero characters from emphasizing on the collectivist spirit of heroic characters to individualistic anti-hero characters. Take Sun Wukong and Nezha as an example, their characters appear in <Monkey King: Hero Is Back> and <NeZha: Birth of the Demon Child> as the anti-hero characters in Chinese animated films gained great attention and box office hits since 2015. It analyzes the traditional cultural and aesthetic features inherent in Chinese animation, and further investigates the reasons why heroic characters with sacrificial spirit have transformed into anti-hero characters in modern society. According to the research results, in the changing cultural context and universal values, the anti-hero often has the external characteristics of being humble and not scary, and the inner characteristics of being chaotic and not morally constrained. In the change of values and social system, the anti-hero character influenced by postmodernism has been impacted in many aspects and formed a unique behavior pattern and subject consciousness. By analyzing the external characteristics of the two protagonists, Sun Wukong and Nezha, and the internal social factors that lead them to become anti-heroes, this study proposes the inner spiritual world and values of anti-heroes who grow up under the specific Chinese culture and values.
