This study aimed to identify the current status of applying universal design to senior community centers in local small and medium-sized cities and to review problems and improvement plans. A field survey was conducted, targeting 38 senior community centers in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do, where urban and rural areas are evenly distributed. Based on the literature review on the universal design of senior community centers, a field investigation checklist was selected by contents related to items that could enable access and basic life of senior community centers. The survey results show that universal design for the main entrance was applied to 68% of the total. However, 16% of the porch connected to the main entrance was applied, and 41% of the ramp was applied. In order for anyone to be able to enter the senior community center and live a basic life, first, the following improvements are needed. First, it is necessary to secure sufficient space at the entrance. Second, it is necessary to secure the effective width of the interior door and remove the level difference. Third, the most basic facilities such as toilet handles should be provided. Fourth, the slope of the ramp must be provided at least 1/8 or less.
