This study analyzed 10 stories of migration experience stories of married Southeast Asian immigrant women, and based on these, investigated cultural communication methods between immigrants and local residents.
The analysis of the areas of life in the migration experience stories of married Southeast Asian immigrant women in the order of life in the home country, migration process, life in Korea, and adaptation is as follows. 1) Married Southeast Asian immigrant women usually chose international marriages with unfamiliar Korean men as a way to improve their personal economic and living conditions. 2) Women usually immigrated to Korea with difficulty communicating in Korean. 3) Women gain gratitude and stability from family relationships in Korea, and women who work at multicultural support centers, etc., gain greater satisfaction. 4) Women did not know Korean well or had difficulty adapting to Korean food and holiday culture. 5) Some interviewees experienced difficulties in work and social life, while also showing expectations for work life and self-actualization.
From the perspective of hospitality and interculturalism, measures for cultural communication between married immigrant women and residents are as follows ; 1) Provide various Korean language learning opportunities to married immigrant women. 2) Pay attention to issues of immigrant women"s food culture, customs, and daily culture adaptation. 3) Pay attention to the job search and self-realization issues of marriage migrant women. 4) There is a need to more actively investigate and conduct in-depth research on married immigrants" experiences of immigrating and settling in Korea.
