Open cycle OTEC (Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion), is a method of making electricity by rotating turbine with the surface seawater itself as the working fluid. In order to carry out seawater evaporation at room temperature, it uses a flash evaporator, which is a low-pressure maintained chamber which vaporizes seawater at low saturation temperature condition. It is an important factor of the OTEC cycle efficiency, because the amount of vaporized seawater directly relates to the net output of the cycle. The evaporator is carried out using Ansys FLUENT. For the result, operating condition with spray angle over 60 degrees, low evaporator pressure, high evaporator and seawater temperature turned out to be the optimal performance conditions. For the ideal operating condition, evaporation ratio of 1.83% was drawn, and the least showed 1.43%, which is a 28% difference in evaporating performance.
