Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze research and policy documents related to the protection of youth athletes using text mining analysis.
Method: The study analyzed the abstracts on the protection of youth tahletes published in SCI/SSCI (N=1000) from 1996 to 2018. The data were analyzed using a topic modeling model with the LDA (Latent Dirichlet Allocation) algorithm.
Results: First, the study identified several factors that pose a risk of human rights violations among youth athletes include self-harm, medical mismanagement, sexual harassment and abuse, neglect, and doping. Second, the topics of protective measures for prevention and response mainly include policy, systems and cooperation.
Conclusion: This study presents a framework for classifying the threats to youth athletes, including wellestablished research topics such as self-harm, medical negligence, sexual harassment and abuse, as well as emerging research topics such as neglect and doping, indicaintg that the scope of research related to the protection of youth athletes is constantly expanding. Moreover, the study reveals that research topics related to protective and preventive measures mainly focus on p olicy, systems and cooperation, which is consistent with previous research findings
