Modern people are exposed to chronic diseases because of a lack of physical activity. In particular, according to a press release on the website of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2022, the obese population has increased since the COVID-19 epidemic and the indicators of physical activity have worsened. As a solution to this, modern people are urged to use indoor stairs. New York City in the United States has already developed "active design guidelines" to improve physical activity and health through design, not medical methods. According to the guidelines, it guides how to design stairs with good location accessibility to induce indoor stair use and how to attach designs to encourage the use of stairs. Designs such as posters used on stairs are described in behavioral economics by the term "Nudge". Nudge means "sneaking in the side", first conceived in a book called Nudge (2008) published by Richard Thaler and Cass R. Sunstein. It does not force the user"s behavior, but naturally induces participation. Previous studies related to nudge design focus only on design development and impact research to increase stair usability. Therefore, there was insufficient research to determine whether the nudge designs used on the actual stairs were an automatic system or a deliberation system among the two human cognitive systems. This study aims to develop an evaluation tool to classify each nudge design into two types of recognition systems, focusing on the indoor nudge design from previous studies so far. We would like to study the impact of design according to the cognitive system using the evaluation tools developed in future studies.
