This study aimed to examine the differences between and relationships among the conception of children, childhood experiences, and human rights-friendly parenting attitude of fathers and mothers with young children and the effects of the conception of children and childhood experiences on human rights-friendly parenting attitude. For this purpose, 420 parents (210 mother-father pairs) of children attending kindergartens in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province and Daegu, Gyeongbuk Province answered questionnaires. The results of this study are as follows. First, a significant difference was found between the father and mother"s child-centered conception and human rights-friendly parenting attitude. However, no difference was found between the adult-centered conception and childhood experiences. Second, both parents had a positive correlation with the child-centered conception but not with the adult-centered conception. Additionally, childhood experience was positively correlated with human rights-friendly parenting attitude. Third, fathers" child- and adult-centered conceptions and childhood experiences all impacted human rights-friendly parenting attitude. In contrast, mothers" child- and adult-centered conceptions affected human rights-friendly parenting attitude, whereas childhood experience did not.
