According to the demographic data in the end of 2022, the number of new immigrants, also the fifth-largest emerging racial group, ranked after the Minnan people, Hakka people, Chinese mainlanders and indigenous people in Taiwan, had reached 570 thousand. At present, there are some characteristics of the emerging group. For example, most of new immigrants are female, and half of which had been living in Taiwan more than 10 years. These female immigrants’ marriages are usually made through the operation of profit-pursuing marriage brokerages (i.e. Zhongjie). In addition, the above-mentioned group new immigrants mainly are devoted themselves in manufacturing industry; thus, with low income.
In recent years, some new immigrants’ groups and several non-governmental organizations had worked together to require the government to pay attention to the necessity of helping new race group and the relevant authorities indeed gradually noticed the related issues. However, according to the study, the researcher finds that there are still certain problems including social alienation, the difficulties in communication, workplace bullying as well as insufficient legal protection. Meanwhile, some unfair phenomenon caused by the government concerned or social discrimination or bully of new immigrants’ children in education field happened at times. This research suggests that the local government still need to be more attentive to the related problems and pay more efforts to effectively improve the situation for the new immigrants.
