This paper has examined the religious and sociological changes in the former GDR region before and after unification in order to find suggestions that might contribute to the reunification of the Korean peninsula. Firstly, I have reviewed Korean and international research on the issue of the German reunification process and integration after that. Secondly, I have examined the religious and sociological characteristics of the former GDR region in her historical (from the late 19th century through the Third Empire/Nazis and until the communist regime was established) and geographical (Protestant and the early industrialized region) contexts. Thirdly, I have analyzed religious and cultural conflicts, especially between the Communist and Christian worldviews (Weltanschaung) in former GDR times by means of the ‘forced secularity’ theory proposed by Monika Wohlrab-Sahr. And finally, I have suggested some academic and practical implications that these religious and sociological analyses of the former GDR might contribute to Korean unification.
