An integration of education and entertainment, also referred to as edutainment, has become pervasive due to the advancement of Information and Communication Technology in the 21st century. Many parents and educators who embrace this technology-mediated teaching and learning technique hold an assumption that instructional media is simply a knowledge-transmitting tool rather than reflecting certain worldview commitments that can potentially shape how learners see the world, interpret the world and live in the world. From the supposition that technology, education and entertainment are not neutral in terms of worldview, this article examines Francis Schaeffer’s epistemological standpoint that knowledge fundamentally emanates from God and its relevance to edutainment. Schaeffer’s God-centered epistemology offers Christians a vital framework for understanding, critiquing and responding to edutainment and its transformative capacity on users.
