A marine can be beneficial to humans for it supplies energy resource, however, at the same time it is the seismic center of large scale disasters. There is no exaggeration in saying that the future of Jeollanamdo depends upon the preservation and development of its marine. The resource for marine tourism is ecologically distributed in the ocean and islands. However, the marine tourism development of Jeollanamdo faces several problems. In order to overcome such obstacles we must first establish an institution that can manage marine resources systematically. Secondly, shortage in marine tourism infrastructure must be improved, and the linkage between marine recreation and native cultural resources should be strengthened. Thirdly, the supplementary development of marine tourism should consider the different characteristic of each island. Last of all we must expand tourist equipment, such as opening a package tour for foreign tourists. In the twenty-first century, Yeosu is likely to become the hub of marine tourism. Moreover by constructing a tourism-belt that links the southwestern coasts of Chonnam, different characteristics such as natural scenic resources, industrial products, cultural resources, and sport tourism can be integrated.
