The purpose of this study was to identify the difference of achievement-goal orientation, self-management and performance of badminton athletes depending on the athletes’ individual characteristics. Also, this study analyzed the effect of achievement-goal orientation on self-management and athletic performance. Moreover, it analyzed the effect of self-management on athletic performance, and thereby will contribute to the formation of knowledge of the physical science and empirical foundation of athlete management. To this end, samples of high school, university and semi-professional badminton athletes registered in The Korea Badminton Association in 2014 who participated in 2014 Autumn Competition(2014. 8. 18-24, Suwon, 2014. 9. 14-20 Jeju) were collected. In addition, sample size used in convenience sampling is 273. The final sample size except insincere materials is 247 out of 273. Experts meeting, pre-test, and factor analysis were used to verify validity. Trustworthiness was a=.779∼.857 which was relatively high. Reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis, t-test, one-way analysis of variance, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis using the program SPSS Statistics 21.0 were conducted. Through these research methods and procedures, the following conclusions were drawn. First, achievement-goal orientation, self-management, and athletic performance had a difference depending on the individual characteristics of badminton athletes. Second, achievement-goal orientation had an influence on self-management and athletic performance. Third, self-management had an effect on athletic performance.
