This research aimed at systematically approaching the nail field by researching expression mode through analyzing with the elements of dot, line, side, color, and texture, after applying the concept of Woolfflin's mode. As the research method, this research combined theoretical consideration and empirical consideration. For theoretical consideration, this research investigated 10 mode concepts of Woolfflin and analyzed by applying Woolfflin's mode concept mainly with design in the nail special magazine「Nailpia」. Research scope was 2002~2013. Linear form of nail art design has section effect by line through line tape or stripe design, pictorial form shows combined shape by forming virtual line utilizing gradation. Flat form was possible with the form of merely placing the same objet as stone and glitter in parallel on the same flat side of tip, depth perception form made the objet in a diagonal shape. Closed mode showed it expressed symmetrical structure with glitter, open mode expressed the characteristic of free kinetic sense by placing stone, glitter, line, and color, etc. on the tip. Plural form displayed the forms that have independence individually with dot, line, side, and color, unity showed the characteristic of assembling the parts with combination in textural shape of linear elements or stone in one part. Based on this result, this research is considered to contribute to firm establishment of nail field as one of beauty industry fields henceforth, as a research that systematically conducted theoretically approach to nail art design.
