This study analyzed the effect of crystal jewelry thermotherapy on menstrual pain, dysmenorrhoea, and body temperature change in students attending in women’s university located in K City. The subjects were divided into the experimental group(n=13) and the control group(n=13). The study was conducted 15 minutes a day, three times a week, during 8 weeks from July 4 to August 19, 2013. The visual analogue scale was used to measure menstrual pain levels. The survey instrument consisted of 48 items for dysmenorrhoea and 37 items was completed by a self-administered method. Body temperature changes were measured using an infrared thermographic imaging system. Data collected were processed using the PASW 18.0 program. First, a difference in the improvement of menstrual pain levels was examined by the visual analogue scale. As a result, the decrease of the experimental group was 4.124 points higher than that of the control group, suggesting a statistically significant difference(p<.001). Second, a difference in the improvement of subjective dysmenorrhoea was examined before and after the treatment. As a result, the decrease of the experimental group was 2.056 points higher than that of the control group, suggesting a statistically significant difference(p<.01). Third, a difference in skin temperature by abdominal parts was examined before and after the treatment. As a result, the aroma + crystal jewelry thermotherapy group was 1.25oC(upper abdomen), 2.03oC(right abdomen), 2.52oC(left abdomen), and 1.55oC(lower abdomen) higher than the aroma therapy group. For body temperature measurement, the experimental group was changed from blue, green, and yellow which are cool colors to yellow, orange, and red after the treatment. However, the control group was yellow before the treatment and was not changed or changed to orange in some parts after the treatment. The results suggested that crystal jewelry thermotherapy improved abdominal temperature and body temperature.
