Since 1876, Chosun dynasty stayed in the turmoil of social order and national authorities. The conflict on domestic social contradiction between the ruling class and ruled people and the invasion of great powers in the world. The official force was no control of social order and people in almost starving stage. Furthermore the ruling Yangban explode the roots and overelating tax burden take people in serious ordeal. This situation take the Donghak believers protest against the state authorities and the innovation of the public adminstration. people participate the cause of Donghak movement. The Naepo area in ChungCheong province was the central post of affluent products. Therefore The ruling Yangban class lived there and they exploit farmers and the roots. They could have the more lands. There was the contradiction between the owner of the lands and farmers. The belief system of the Donghak teachings move the people to creed the cause of equality ideas and the new world coming for the Chochun dynasty (Huchungaebuksasang). They wanted the messias for salvation their painful living condition. That situation was tragedy situation the weakened authorities and the invasion of the foreign military invasion. The organization of Donghak believers expanded other area and from 1882 the movement went into the cities, Gongju, Samrye, kwangwhamun, Boeun etc. The administration of Donghak 12 units was built and activities was enforced. The founder, Suwun Choi Je Woo, was executed by the government. The Donghak believer thought the death of no sin and return of the honor the Founder. They had the great movement for the cause of Donghak. They battled the invasion forces of imperial Japan. They could win the battle withe Japan invasion force. But also They treated the authority voice. But the battle of Hongju castle lost the power and ended the battle in defeat. The battle and movement of Donghak believers in Naepo area was the expression of the Chosun dynasty of collapsing the civilization. And the corruption and conflict was serious. It was tragedy for the people. Nevertheless, They failed the Innovation movement but the cause of the Donghak believers is now living in today. The spirits of the ideas and activities awaken our insight of yesterday history. Today the lessen of yesterday is the innovation of the haves must to remember. 1876년 개항 이후 조선사회는 기존의 왕조사회에 대한 새로운 양상이 전개되기 시작하였다. 안으로는 봉건적 사회 모순의 심화였으며, 밖으로는 서세동점에 대한 대응이 그것이었다. 그러나 조선의 상황은 어느 것 하나도 제대로 대응할 수 없을 정도로 심각했다. 특히 봉건적 사회모순으로의 토지문제와 조세문제가 가장 극심하였다. 양반지주의 토지소유의 확대와 관리들의 탐학은 국가재정의 파탄으로 이어졌고, 결국 조세수탈의 가중으로 민중들은 고통에 시달리고 있었다. 이와 함께 서구열강들의 서세동점으로 주권이 유린되는 현실이 구체적으로 드러나고 있었다. 이러한 왕조 말기의 모순을 극복하기 위해 동학이 창도되었고, 민중들에게 희망의 메시지를 전해주었다. 충청도 내포지역은 풍부한 물산과 지리적 이점으로 일찍이 양반사족이 정착하였으며, 이들은 신분적 사회적 지위를 이용하여 토지의 소유를 집중하였다. 이로 인해 농민들은 봉건적 토지관계의 모순과 억압된 신분제하에서 착취와 수탈의 이중고에 시달렸다. 동학이 추구하는 만민평등이 실현되는 후천개벽의 이상사회는 곧 이들 헐벗고 굶주린 민중들에게 메시아적 구원으로 등장했다. 당연히 양반층의 탐학의 대상이었고 야만적인 외세의 침탈을 목격한 내포지역 민중들 역시 그 어느 지역보다도 동학에 입도하는 자들이 늘어났다. 내포지역의 동학조직은 관의 지목과 탄압을 피하면서 1982년부터 공주, 삼례, 광화문, 보은 등지에 거대한 12개포를 구성해서 참석할 정도로 크게 번성했다. 이들은 수운대신사의 억울한 죽음을 신원하고 동학을 정부에서 공식적으로 인정하도록 촉구하는 대집회에 참여했다. 그리고 동학농민혁명의 “보국안민”, “척양척왜”의 기치를 들고 재기포가 일어났을 때는 면천 승전곡에서 일본군의 정예부대를 퇴각시켰으며 북상을 기도하기 위해 신례원 관작리에 주둔, 이곳에서도 관군, 유회군을 크게 무찔러 내포최대 승전지를 일궈낼 정도였다. 그러나 10월 28일 내포행정의 중심인 홍주성전투에서의 패퇴를 끝으로 막을 내렸다. 충청도 내포지역의 동학전파와 조직화 과정은 그대로 조선사회의 부패한 모습의 반영이자 당시 사회변혁을 위해 투쟁한 민중들의 변화과정의 반영이라고 보여진다. 비록 동학농민혁명의 열기는 꺾였지만 그들의 희망과 목표는 여전히 유효한 이유도 여기에 있을 것이다. 사회변혁을 위한 끊임없는 노력은 언제나 지도층보다는 민중들의 몫이었기 때문이다.
