Effective production of custom products and high recyclability can be achieved by dividing the products into common and custom parts. In addition, to print a large model using a small 3D printer, it is necessary to decompose the product into several smaller pieces. To this end, a method to decompose a custom product into custom modules, which vary with each product, and reusable common modules was developed. In addition, for the efficient assembly of the decomposed modules, an assembly method was designed by combining the principles of LEGO and traditional methods while considering assembling capability, stability, and recyclability. The form with superior stability was selected through simulation and manual assembly and disassembly experiments, and the module was standardized. A software that reduced the preparation time for manufacturing was developed to automate model decomposition and assembly pattern generation. In addition, the decomposed modules were manufactured using multiple 3D printers, thereby reducing the manufacturing time. The proposed method is expected to improve the development time for custom prototypes.
