We live in the uncertain times by experiencing human vulnerability due to pandemic. Christians are struggling to seek the faithfulness and the presence of God by embracing this brokenness of the world. In this uncertain and vulnerable context of ministry pastors should lead the congregations as God’s people to Christ through the pastoral ministry of worship. This short article attempts to give a pastoral response to our contemporary uncertain and even painful circumstances of Christian faith and life by proposing a liturgical way of retrieving Christian hope through biblical prayers of lament. The true Christian hope can be accomplished and manifested by the Triune God revealing through the death and life of Jesus Christ as the ground and content of hope. The cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ vividly shows us that lament and hope are always intertwined between each other. That is why the laments as giving voices of suffering would be an appropriate alternative to the logical argument on the faithfulness and the existence of God and any emotional experiences of anticipating merely better future. The prayers of lament in the Psalms have been used as pastoral and liturgical way of retrieving Christian hope by honestly complaining human sufferings and rigorously connecting all areas of human life to God. This work argues that the prayers of laments in the Psalms as the gift of God can be more actively articulated and developed means for public prayer as a liturgical way of retrieving true Christian hope particularly in our contemporary uncertain times.
