This study analyzes the development factors of trade in the Kingdom of Lanna during the Mangrai dynasty. It analyzed internal factors such as geographical conditions, economic structure, and political and administrative systems, as well as Mangrai's economic perception of trade in the northern part of the Kingdom of Lanna, and its policy of expanding trade. First, the Kingdom of Lanna was geographically bordered by Burma, Laos, and Yunnan, which was ruled by China, and developed valleys and basins along rivers and mountains, and this natural environment was an important factor in the development of Lanna's trade. Second, the basic economic conditions of the Kingdom of Lanna depended on the production of the Phri(the common people) class, and each unit, including villages, cities, and subordinate states, was used as a tool to define and manage taxes and tributes for the central government. Some of the revenues were sent to large countries by tribute and some were used as central resources to protect the army and the kingdom. Third, the Kingdom of Lanna was the intersection of trade between the northern regions of Lanna, including Luang Prabang, Yunnan, Burma, and Ayutthaya, Sukhothai, Rawa, and Mutama. This geopolitical situation made King Mangrai aware of the importance of trade through territorial scholars. Besides, Local lord, who was the highest ruling class in the province, played the most important role in collecting taxes and donating them to the royal treasury upon the appointment of the king, and other local officials were responsible for substantial trade The Kingdom of Lanna disappeared into history after the annexation of Siam in the 19th century, but the experience of maintaining a strong kingdom based on trade could serve as a cornerstone for the development of logistics and exchange networks in northern Thailand
