The significance of the present study lies in determining the correlations among the violence experienced by hair salon workers on the job, coping with the violence, and their work performance, and providing basic data to create a safe work environment that can prevent violence. The major findings of the present study were as follows. First, significant differences were found in the violence experienced by hair salon workers according to their general characteristics of age, marital status, and the highest level of education. Second, both internal violence, which occurs among employees of hair salons, and external violence, which is violence by customers, were found to have significant influence on problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping. Third, it was found that the higher the problemfocused coping and emotion-focused coping of hair salon workers after their experience of violence, the higher the salon work performance. Accordingly, hair salon workers need to actively cope with violence, and the creation of a systematic manual on the prevention of violence based on the findings of the present study is desired in the future. The significance of the present study lies in the presentation of empirical data that can be used in the development of educational programs for the prevention of violence.
