The objectives of this study was to investigate the natural dyeing characteristics and colorfastness to light on the hair of Monascus purpureus pigment as measured by pH, mordanting method, dyeing time and temperature. The results are as follows. When M. purpureus pigment were used to dye decolored hair, red purple were dyed on the hair and It was found that there was almost no change in color due to pH change. As a result of dyeing hair with M. purpureus pigment, the color of hair showed a slight difference in degree of dyeing and chromaticity depending on the mordanting method, dyeing time and temperature. The hair coloring of M. purpureus pigment was found to be similar very well stained for 30 min at 40oC and 50oC for mordanting method. According to research on degree of decoloring by daylight irradiation and shampooing of hair dyed with M. purpureus pigment, in daylight irradiation colorfastness test, when exposed to sunlight for more than 5 hours, very severe decoloration occurred, but However, in the shampooing colorfastness test, there was only a slight decoloration change according to the number of rinsing, and there was no severe decoloration change. As a result, the natural dyeing of the hair using the M. purpureus pigment, was well dyed without using the mordant(KAl(SO4)2·l2H2O) and the possibility as a hair dye was low. Therefore, it is anticipated that if the decoloration degree is lowered by continuously studying this field in the future, good results will be obtained as natural hair dye for hair.
