Purpose: This systematic review was conducted to identify scientific nursing interventions for relieving injection-related pain in adult patients. Methods: The literature search was conducted in January 2020 using electronic databases including MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, KoreaMed, KMbase, and ScienceOn focused on randomized controlled trials. A qualitative appraisal of studies was evaluated using the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network. Results: In this systematic review, a total of 7 studies were included based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. 4 studies were evaluated as acceptable and 3 studies were evaluated as unacceptable. The Visual Analogue Scale was most frequently used as a measure of pain assessment (N=6). The most common intervention group was patients with diabetes mellitus (N=4). There were mixed results of pain reduction effect on the length and gauge of needles, volume of injecting medicine. ‘Buzzy device’ was reported significant on pain reduction effect in one study. Conclusion: The study findings identified existing scientific interventions for injection-related pain management in adult population. It is suggested to conduct further research to improve of pain management for adult patient.
